Monday evening we had a birthday party for Sadie and Sophie. Sophie's birthday is next week and this was her first real birthday party. We decided to rent the pool and have a swimming party. Since Sadie's birthday is in January and she never has had a pool party, we postponed her birthday party until the summer and combined the two.
Sadie turned 12 in January and it is so hard to believe she will be 13 in six months. Where has the time gone?
MeMe and Papa came down from Russellville and brought Spencer too. The girls were so excited that they came all that way on a work night to come to their party. They were super excited!!

MeMe helped lifeguard while she dipped her feet in the pool too. I think Sophie and Spencer made her a little nervous jumping off of the diving board. She sat close and monitored their every move.

The big kids played really well with the little kids and I think everyone had a good time.

Spencer has gotten so brave since the last time I saw her swimming. At the beginning of summer, she wouldn't even get her head under water to get her hair wet and here she is jumping off of the diving board.

Sophie got to invite 10 of her friends and Sadie got to invite 10 of her friends. Sadie was a little upset because a few of her friends were unable to come due to family vacations and summer camps. I think she was afraid Sophie would have more friends there than she did. She did a little fretting the week before the party.

But Sadie did have a good turn out and I don't think it would have mattered anyway. Her boyfriend, Chase, came and his little brother. That was the most important guest of course.

Of course that did cause a little friction because Sophie is crazy about Chase and she wouldn't leave him alone for very long at a time. He gives her lots of attention which she loves, but Sadie can't stand it.

We ate hot dogs and chips and had special birthday cupcakes. Mostly because I didn't want to mess with cake. Cupcakes are easier clean up.

Then we opened gifts which was the funnest part of all of it for me. Not only because it was inside in the air conditioning, but all those little girls were cracking me up loving all the presents.

They all helped Sophie unwrap her gifts and it was like it was Christmas for all of them. They got so excited!!

Sadie's crew was a little more laid back and grown acting. I think I heard a couple of cools and awesomes from them. But no shrieks and shrills like the little ones.
Everything went well. Simple and sweet. The most wonderful part was on the way home when Sophie said, "Thanks Mom for the party. That was the coolest ever!" It made every hot sweaty moment of it worth it!
