Sophie's freshman year of golf was great.  She was so nervous about it.  She was even a little intimidated about it.  She was going to be the only freshman, which means the only newbie.

She was scared at first to even go to practice because she didn't want the older girls to see her play.

She did go and she did practice and she did get better.

Her confidence grew when she went to a few matches and hung in there with those older girls.

There were so many girls that all of them couldn't compete in every match because it was limited to four per team for time purposes.  Sophie's scores were lower than a couple of the older girls.  She was even pretty close to knocking out one of the other girls.

Her first year was great.  Her swing is beautiful.  She fit herself right into the team.  She scored well under pressure.  She had so much fun with it.  I think she liked it a lot more than she even thought she would.

She didn't want the season to end and can't wait for next year.

Sophie as a Scrapper Golfer

Coach Worthen is everyone's favorite.

Golf is a very personal sport.  It is one sport that doesn't depend on anyone else or anything else.  It is only you and the ball.  The ball doesn't even move until you hit it.  It just sits there.  It is simple in theory...very hard in reality.  It takes years and years of practice to improve.  It takes lots of technique to perfect it.  The weather can affect your play some.  Noise can be a little bit of an interference when you are trying to concentrate.  However, there are so many things going through your head at one time that it totally exhausts you every round you play.

Sophie is hard on herself.  She wants to be perfect.  She doesn't want to make mistakes.  She wants to play well and make her teammates and her coach proud.
She is really doing well and improving at big speeds.

She also has a lot of fans.  Molly got to tag along and walk with her a couple of holes at a home match.  Sadie got to make a match at Arkadelphia.

Super proud of this Scrapper Golfer.

So this years 2 Lady in Nashville was hot!!  Jane and I always play together and this year was no different.  This year it was only a one day tournament.  Jane and I shot even par.

The committee chairman called Jonathan and asked him to come roam around the course and take some pictures while we were playing.  I didn't hear anyone complain about it.  It was a little nerve racking because I didn't know whether to smile or concentrate on my game.

Obviously, I chose to not smile and concentrate on my shots.  LOL.  Honestly I didn't realize he took all of these.  I thought there was only two and the other one was on another hole and not pictured, so I guess I did have my mind on what I was doing and not him.

I was super excited that Sadie and Adley played in it together.  They got together the week before and played a little bit together to practice.  Sadie hadn't played a bit since golf season last year.

I was pretty impressed that they shot one over.  We only beat them by one stroke.  However, she had to pay Larry $5 because they had a bet going about beating me.

Maybe next year baby girl!!!

The Girls' State Golf Tournament was at The Country Club of Arkansas again in Maumelle.
These are the girls that she played with.  One was from Pocahantus, one was from DeWitt, and one was from Highland.  They were all sweet girls.

Sadie played really really good!  We were super proud of her.

She acted like she had fun with it too.

This being her last time to play was sad.  Not that she can't play anytime she wants to the rest of her life.  But the last time to play as a high school student.  I admit it.  I cried.  I couldn't help it.  The tears just started flowing.  I hid it well though.  I don't think anyone knew.

Sadie birdied her last hole to break 90.  She shot an 89.  That's her personal best score ever.  I knew she had it in her.  Coach Worthen knew she had it in her.  Larry knew she had it in her.  I think she even knew it was in there.  I think that's why she got so frustrated all year.  She knew she could do it.

Sadie, Larry, and I went up the day before and had a practice round.  The plan was for Coach Worthen to come too, but he got stuck in traffic and missed the tee time.

We couldn't have done it without MeMe!!  She met us at Maumelle and got the little girls.  She took them to have fun and then took them back to our house to get them to school and cheer clinic the next day during the tournament.  She didn't want Larry or me to have to miss it.

I felt bad that she went to that much trouble, but we really enjoyed it.  We all three played a practice round the day before.  Sadie took notes as to what club she should use where.  Sadie and I had a bet going and she played hard enough that she beat me by one stroke.

We took this picture and Sadie posted it saying, "Enjoying pretending like I'm an only child."

All her work paid off.  Her 89 got her in the top 10 out of the 63 girls.  This is the top girls in the state.

Super proud of this little chick-a-dee.  Not shabby for a girl who doesn't care anything about golf.

We had a fun time going to District this year.  Sadie being the only girl on the whole golf team means she gets extra attention.  She competed as an individual at Diamonhead Golf Course in Hot Springs.

Coach Worthen has been a great coach.  All the kids love him.  He works them and makes it fun at the same time.

Sadie didn't have the best round of her little golf career.  She started off rough and couldn't get back on track.

She got frustrated and it was hard for her to get past that.  MeMe came and watched her and learned alot about golf.  She already knew alot about Sadie.  It didn't take MeMe long to figure out Sadie was mad at Sadie.

She played better on the back nine and had more fun with it.

She and I both didn't think she would have a shot at going to State with the score that she had.  But she somehow pulled it out.

She did make State and she also made All Conference.  That means that she was in the top 15% (or top 5) of the bunch.

She has played good all year and this round did not show that.  She shot a 110.  She played this same course the week before and shot an 87.  I know she was so disappointed!

We had a good time.  We went up the night before....MeMe, Sadie, and Me.  We had a motel room.  We all three stayed together.  We don't get to spend much quality time just the three of us.

We ate Larry's pizza until we were stuffed.  Then went to the room and this happened.

I did laugh...really hard

Sadie's golf season is coming to a close.  She will play in the District Tournament next week.  If she plays well, she will be eligible to go to State.

If she doesn't play good, golf season is over.

She has done very well this year.  No matter what happens, I am super proud of her for sticking it out with as much as she has going on this year.

Plus, she looks super cute in her golf attire!

These are a couple of her fans.  She had a full gallery at this golf match.  Dad, Molly, me, Sophie, and Cameron were watching.  Not to mention a few of the locals that watched a few holes here and there.

Super proud of my girl who doesn't even really like golf that much.

She has been medalist at the last three golf matches.

We took the little girls to watch their big sister since the match was at home this week.

Molly had a hard time being quiet.  She was critiquing everything that those girls did.  She wanted to play with them so bad.  Finally the last hole, Larry let her walk carrying her clubs to the final hole.

Sadie shot a 46 this day too.  She has really improved her game.  Her attitude is alot better this year too.  I think she really enjoyed her sisters being there to watch.

Sophie enjoyed watching Sadie, but she had her eye out for Colin the whole time.  Finally after the match she got to see him and visit with him.  I'm worried about her 'crushin' on these older boys.  I don't know what I'm going to do with her.

We talked Colin into taking a picture with Sophie.  She will hang on to this forever!!  Last year Colin gave her a signed golf ball for her birthday.  It is one of her most prized possessions.

Sadie was aggravated about me taking pictures because she said her hair looked awful.

I told her she should have fixed her hair because she knew I would have my camera.

These two girls here are inseparable.  The only thing that separates them is about 130 miles and they would change that if they could.  They have a bond.  I don't know what it is, but it can't be broken.

This little toot got some camo the other day.  She and her daddy have been armadillo hunting lots of nights lately.  She holds the flashlight.  She thinks she's big.
The camo isn't for armadillo hunting though.  She usually does that in her night gown.  The camo is for deer season.  It's getting close.  It's time to start getting ready.  I don't know if she will actually go hunting any this year, as in sit in the stand and hunt, but she thinks she is hunting if she just goes to the lease so she is ready!!

Now that it is cooler in the evenings we have been going to the golf course more.  Molly has been practicing on her swing.... and playing with Emma.

Sophie has been playing a few holes....and playing with Anna Claire.

Sadie and I played in the 3 Lady Tournament this year together.

Me, Sadie, and Jane.

We got rained out the first day and didn't even get to play.  The second day we shot even par.  We still got wet, didn't win any money, but we had a good time.
