Sadie's first cheer competition.

What a night!! Sadie didn't know what to expect. She was even dreading it. I was pumped because it was my first cheer competition to watch.

She and I went alone. It was a school night and I didn't want to keep Sophie out late. Molly wasn't invited because it was hard to pry her off of the mats the night before at practice. She would have been in cheerleader Heaven, but we will save that for next year, hopefully.

OBU hosted this competition. The closer we got to Arkadelphia, the more nervous Sadie got. We got there just as junior high finished up. They got first place in their division.

Once there, Sadie was almost to the point of throwing up. Really.

I decided on the way that I wasnt taking my camera or video recorder. I was just going to take it all in and be free to watch and enjoy the show. It went by really fast and I enjoyed watching all the squads compete.

Then it was their turn. The floor was theirs. The music started and I was trying to fight back tears. I don't know why. I was proud of her and was really nervous for her.

Overall they looked wonderful!! There were a few mess ups, even my untrained and inexperienced eye could see. But these girls rocked it!! I was super proud of every one of them.

When Sadie came back to me she was teary eyed and being hard on herself as usual. She said she doesn't remember much about it. She said it was a blur and her body just took over. She said she couldn't breathe. I think the adrenaline kicked in and she was so scared she forgot to breathe. We watched the rest of the squads preform.   Then they announced the winners.

Scrappers got First Place in their division. They also got two other awards that I can't even remember right now.

They were 3 tenths of a point from Grand Champion, but I am super proud of them anyway!!

Mrs Renfrow told Sadie, while walking to the car, that she was proud of them all and blown away at how well Sadie has done. She said that there is no way that anyone can tell that this is Sadie's first year to cheer.  I think that alone made Sadie feel better about her performance. I told her that was a mighty big compliment and she needs to tuck that away to bring out when she is feeling down about her progress.

I don't know if this made Sadie excited about going to state or not. She may be even more nervous. I enjoyed it all. It was pretty intense and full of drama for Sadie, which left me with a splitting headache. But I will be prepared for state with Tylenol and maybe my camera.
