Sophie is learning about gardening in science this year.  It is really pretty cool.  I probably am a little more excited about it than she is.

They have raised garden beds.  Each class is responsible for one bed.  There are 16 different vegetables planted per bed.  The kids did all the planting, all the weeding, all the watering, and are watching them grow.

I was out of town at a class when they had their garden party and I missed it.  Larry went to the party and took pictures and sent to me.  You can barely see the garden bed behind her.

Here is a poster, that Sophie made, that shows what vegetable is where.  The radishes have already been harvested.  She brought me one home to eat.  They also made so kind of soup at school with their radishes.  Sophie didn't love it.

Of course, Sophie and Journey had to have their picture together.

This was the program for the Garden Party.  What a cute, cute idea.  I love that they are teaching some much more than book work to these kids.

Molly had a magician come to her school.  She really didn't have much to say about it.  I saw the pictures on Facebook and asked her about it.  She didn't seem really impressed.  She is in the white tshirt and ponytail.  She looks like she is paying attention, but I guess it just wasn't her thing.

I did hear a story about her that cracked me up.  One of the officers went to the primary to talk to the kids about citizenship.  He said that they broke the session up by grades and each grade that he talked to he would pick a kid to come up with him and let them hold his handcuffs and use them as examples and such.  Well, he picked Molly, of course.  So, Molly is up in front of the group with the officer and he tells the whole group about how he knows Molly and that her dad is a criminal investigator and works with him and what all that means.  He finishes his little information and sends Molly back to sit down.  Molly went to sit down and raised her  hand.  He said that he didn't answer her right away because he was finishing his presentation.  He said that he could tell by her facial expression that she was getting impatient that he wouldn't ask her what she needed.  He said he finally asked her if she had a question.  Molly said, "No.  You didn't say anything about my Momma!!"

(That girl loves her Momma!!!)

I asked Molly about the incident when she got home from school.  She recounted it the exact same way.  She was a little irritated that I was left out of the presentation.

Sophie also got her picture made with these accelerated readers.  I'm really proud at how her school work has become so important to her.  It's not that I am pushing.  She is pushing herself, which even makes it more outstanding!!
