My little world traveler, Sophie, took another trip with MeMe to San Antonio to see Papa.  The weather did not cooperate with them as well this time.  They were in the middle of a major flash flood.  But they did have an adventurous trip, as always.

Mom emailed these photos when she got home.  I have to share her story of the pictures too because it is just like I was there.  They drove Sophie to Corpus Christie so she could see the ocean.  She has never been before.  (Sad, I know.)

Mom's descriptions of the pictures are in blue.

We ate at a restaurant on the peer and afterward walk out on this long peer on the ocean.

On the way home Sophie took the picture of this wind turbine. There were several of them before we got into Corpus Christie.

I talked to Sophie REGULARLY, while she was gone for the weekend.  I asked her what she thought about the beach and the ocean.  She said that she loved it, except she was allergic to the sand.  She said it made her itch really bad.  Not bad enough to not go back though.

Sophie really loved the ocean. Of course until she developed an allergic reaction to the sand. She played with this little mexican boy who looked to be close to Molly's age. They played in the sand. Mostly scooping it up with their shovels and throwing it back in the water.

Talk about poor planning on my part. I didn't take a thing needed to spend the afternoon on the beach. After touring the ship we went straight to the beach. I rented an umbrella and two lawn chairs. We got Wayne situated under the umbrella and Sophie and I hit the gift shop. We bought 3 towels, tote bag, beach toys and a T-shirt for Sophie to use as a cover up. I looked for a bathing suite but refused to pay $60.00 for one. Sophie put hers on in the gift shop in the dressing room. I thought we were all fixed up. Wrong!

We get back to Wayne and he can't get up from the lawn chair I rented. It took me and Sophie pulling his arm to get him on his feet. He said the chair was too low and his poor knees didn't have the strength to lift him.

So I sent him back to the gift shop to get a taller chair. All the while Sophie is dying to get in the water. I couldn't very well carry my purse with me to the water so I made Sophie stay right at the edge on the sand until Wayne got back.

Finally we get him fixed. I roll up my jeans and go to the water where Sophie is playing and in no time flat my jeans are soaked from the waves.

Sophie decided to play in the sand with her toys so I go back to the gift shop thinking I might find some shorts to get in the water with her. No such luck. All they had were "Daisy Dukes". Needless to say I ended up drenched with my jeans about to fall off. Believe it not we had a good time.

They also toured the USS Lexington.  Sophie was very impressed with the ship, but said it freaked her out a little.  She said she was afraid she was going to fall overboard.

We walked all over the ship. Actually all the way to the top. Up and down, up and down and up and down steep steep ladders. Sometimes you would think she was the tour guide. Sophie really enjoyed it. I think.

She had a post card that she brought home that had the ship on it.  She had to show it to every one we saw.

Sometimes I feel bad because I am not with her during these excursions and "firsts."  But at the same time, I am glad that she has her alone time with MeMe.  She will value that so much.

Besides, she loves to be the only one getting attention from MeMe and Papa.  She loves being the big kid and the little one all at the same time.  They are guilty of spoiling her rotten.  It's okay.  I'm glad she has that relationship with them.

But, my favorite part of her being gone is when she gets back home.  You would think she hasn't seen us in a year!

Oh, I love how you added your mom's narration within the post. I know they all had a good time. I was laughing out loud with Papa and his chair and Meme and all of her trips to the gift shop! Priceless!

Love that story - it did feel like I was there. I wish I were there with the waves drenching my pants. I love the beach - wanna go?? I too love their relationship and know you treasure because trust me when I tell you, I know the importance of that. The memories will last a lifetime!
