The road to recovery is slow. It will be two weeks tomorrow since we had the cast taken off. Then first few days we just babied her leg and gave her baths, as many as she would take. She didn't even really try to move it. You could tell it was sore. We did get out more because it was easier to carry her and we didn't have to worry about pee leaking into the cast.
Then after a few days, she would start moving her leg. It was still swollen and stiff. She would not straighten her leg out, but she didn't complain. We were all glad to have to have that cast gone!!
We tried to let her do some of the things she had been missing out on. We went to the deer lease a lot, and even went to target shoot.
She really didn't shoot the gun, but she really thought she was doing something big!! She would make the sound with her mouth and say, " Got him!!"
After a week, she finally started standing up. She wouldn't put any weight on her right leg. But she would stand up for a while as long as she had something to lean on. A few days of that and she started crawling around. She had to be mobile some. She still depended on us a lot to carry her and was very unsure of herself.
It didn't take long after that and she started to try to walk with someone holding her hands. She still wouldn't put any weight on her leg and would drag the left leg up to the right leg. It wasn't really a step, but it was something.
We did exercises in the evenings and made a game out of it. We would often sing 'If you're happy and you know it, lift your leg!" We encouraged her to walk every day. She just refused to take a step by herself.
This past weekend, we finally made it to church. Molly was missing it as much I needed it. Sweet Julie is Molly's Sunday School teacher. I worried about Molly being clingy and scared to let go of her. I was so glad Julie sent me this picture of her playing with the girls.
Today I decided that I was going to call the doctor tomorrow and ask if she should be walking by now. I was thinking that two weeks should be enough time. I was trying not to rush her, but getting concerned about the progress.
Low and behold, when I picked Molly up from Verna's, she was walking!!! Granted they are slow, deliberate steps with a limp. But exactly what I needed to see!
We went home and I got out the new cheer outfit I got her.
This sweet girl will be back to normal in no time, just a little more rotten!!
