Christmas 2014
This Christmas was full of cheer and sickness. Larry got sick and stayed in bed the whole day Christmas Eve. It was the sickest he had been in a long time. Papa had taken a nasty fall a couple of days before and he didn't feel like riding in the car. So, MeMe came down for Christmas Eve and just the girls hung out with presents and taco soup. We nursed Larry, but kept him quarantined to try to keep everyone else from getting what we thought was the flu. We had a good day to spite all that.
Sadie was hard to find gifts for this year. She is my little down to earth realist girl who knows how hard a dollar is to come by. She didn't ask for a whole lot. She racked up mostly on some clothes and cell phone accessories, which is important stuff ya know.
Sophie was only worried about one gift. She had been asking for a laptop all year. She had even saved her money to buy one in case she didn't get one for Christmas. I told her that she was not old enough to get the use out of a laptop yet. But she knew MeMe was going to come through. She had been shaking every present and had already decided what present was it. She was right. Somehow MeMe usually gets whatever they ask for.
Molly was way more excited about presents this year. She really knew what was going on. She would start opening presents and would say every time, "I wonder what this should be.?" She was fun to watch.
Larry recovered slowly and Santa came after we all went to bed. I guess all the girls had been good throughout the year because there was gifts for them all. Sophie woke up not feeling well and eventually the sickness spread through the family. Somehow I managed to miss it. I don't know how except that God knew that someone needed to stay well enough to take care of everyone else.
A few days later, we went to MeMe's and had Christmas with the family. We were a few short this year, but we all had a very good time. We ate until we were stuffed, opened a few more gifts, and played trivia games until everyone was laughing until they cried.
I have been trying to get all the kids together for a picture every year at Christmas. I usually don't post them because I use them in some form or fashion for Christmas gifts the following year.
It is neat to compare them and see how much they have all changed in a year's time.
This year I am breaking the rules and posting a few of my favorites!
I have lots of years that I don't have pictures of my mother. She is not a camera fan. She loves pictures, but hates getting her picture taken. She has gotten better, or at least tolerant of me now. I have proved to her that I am going to take pictures anyway so she might as well smile and act like she enjoys it or there will be pictures of her everywhere with her giving me that mean look.
I am tickled to death that she participates now because otherwise I wouldn't have gotten this:
I even managed to get some pictures of Trisha, Rowdy, and Spencer!
And another favorite is this one of MeMe and all these kids. It's never a dull moment when they are all together.
Family. Food. Memories.
