Sadie was chosen to go to Girls State this year. I think it was an honor. She was really excited about going. There were five girls chosen from her school to go. She got her confirmation packet and found out she was assigned to Teague City, which was neat because Larry Teague is from here. She was assigned a "nationalist" whose colors are blue. (I figured out that they randomly assign you as a nationalist or federalist which is the equivalent of democrat or republican.)
I went alone on Sunday to Searcy to take Sadie and drop her off for the week. We had a nice lunch and I helped her unload her things and drove home. While I was driving off I thought, is this how it is going to feel when she goes to college next year? I fooled myself thinking that I was going to tell myself it was the same thing and she would only be gone a week at a time. There were no tears, but I knew I would miss her all week.
Sadie told me before she left that she wasn't going to run for anything at Girls State. She said that she just wanted to enjoy the week. I told her that I thought she would enjoy it more if she was involved. She didn't act interested. She sent me a message early in the week and told me that she ran for Mayor of Teague City (the nationalist) and won. I was very surprised, but very proud of her. The next night she had to run against the other party for the position (the federalist) and she lost that race. She was pretty bummed about that.
I told her that I better get pictures during the week and she minded. I got pictures periodically all week long which made me very happy. I could tell she was having a good time...that also makes me happy.
She was nominated for Prosecuting Attorney of Bradshaw County and won that position. She was a little happy about that, but she really wanted the Mayor's position.
The Nashville girls were all split up and didn't stay even in the same dorm, but they did meet at Starbucks and hung out a few times during the week.
They got to dress up in their respected colors on Rally night. I think this was a fun night.
I got lots of pictures on this night!
She loved her roommate, suitemates, and her counselors!
I think these next pictures are of Inauguration Day I believe.
Pretty girls everywhere!
Then on one of the days they got to go to the capitol and hang out for a while.
I think she had a good week. She said it was a good experience and she learned that she doesn't want to be in politics or be an attorney.
She made some new friends from all over the state and she learned that going off to college is going to be harder than she thought. She got a little homesick while she was gone. Not bad, just missed home and the things at home.
She was really glad to be going home at the end of the week, but she is gonna miss these girls that she spent every minute of every day with.
