Saturday was the start of deer season for Sophie.  Youth hunt 2015.  Last year she killed a doe and was excited to get that at the end of the season.  She and Larry went several times and she even missed one.

This year she was so looking forward to it.  She went out a couple of times and shot her gun.  She had a youth model 243 and Larry got a new youth model 260.  She shot both of them and decided that she liked her original 243 better.  She said that she wasn't shooting anything unless it had horns for the first few times she went.  She said that she would take a doe if she had to, but wanted a buck first.

They left early Saturday morning and came home with a 4 point.  She was SO excited.  She talked 90mph all day long about her buck.  She told me all about how she shot and she knew she hit him.  She told me all about how he jumped and even demonstrated how he jumped.  She told me all about how SHE tracked him and SHE found him.
She was way more excited than when she killed her doe last year.

She sent Sadie pictures and rubbed it in a little.  Sadie was at her Hunter's Ed class all day long.  She and Sadie started a bet last year about hunting and tags and bags.  Sadie was really excited for Sophie.  It was sweet that she was so supportive.

Sophie and Larry went back out Saturday afternoon.  Sophie wasn't really excited about going back out.  She had already killed a buck that day.  But she got dressed and went anyway.

She was so glad she did.  She brought home another buck.  An 8 point this time.  She was over the moon excited about this deer.  10 years old and 2 bucks in the same day!!!

Larry tells the story about the second hunt.  He said that the deer were moving really good.  They would only have to wait about 15-20 minutes and another would come out.  The first one that came out was a small one like the one she had killed that morning.  She passed it.  She wanted a bigger one.

There were a couple more that came out that they watched.  Then she had to pee really bad.  Larry kept telling her to hold it.  She finally got to the point that she couldn't hold it anymore.  She decided she was going to squat.  Right there on the stand.  She got her pants undone and started to pull them down, when this 8 point walked out.  She got all positioned and after a little bit, she shot.  Larry said that she seemed a little worried that she missed this one because she started yelling, "Go DOWN! Go DOWN!"  Obviously she didn't miss.  I don't know how she kept from peeing on herself, but she did good there too!

I am super proud of this little hunter.  Super proud of Larry for investing the time and encouraging her to hunt.  Super proud of Sophie's trophies.  And super proud we now we have some deer meat.

Sophie was a little bummed when she found out she couldn't kill anymore bucks this year.  She said she just didn't even care about getting a doe.  I told her she would change her mind when we run out of jerky meat.  She agreed!!
