Youth hunt has been something that Sophie is starting to look forward to every year.  This year she was pumped about it.

She looked through pictures with Larry every time he brought the camera cards home.  She picked out some deer that she wanted to get.  She even named some of them.  

So, the morning of youth hunt Sophie and Larry headed out, but they came home empty handed.  She saw several doe and a few small bucks, but she wanted a big buck so she passed on all of those.  They came home and had lunch and rested a while and they went back.  

This time she came home with a doe.  She really really didn't want to shoot a doe, only a buck, but she said there was nothing wrong with a doe and it was jerky meat that she couldn't wait to have.  

Another reason Sophie doesn't like shooting a doe is because she doesn't like to touch the ears.  She doesn't mind touching the horns on a buck, but she hates touching the does ears.  Molly, loves when Sophie has a kill.  She doesn't mind touching them anywhere.

So, Sunday after church they headed back out again.  This time, she was determined to kill a buck.  No does.

And she did.  She got this good 7 point with one shot.  She dropped him right in his tracks.  

She was pretty excited about this and was more excited that it meant even more jerky meat.  

She also had made a bet with a boy at school before the season started.  It was a friendly competition on who would kill the most deer.  Sophie is in the lead.

Larry really gets excited about Sophie's hunting.  He has been many times this year and still hasn't gotten anything.  I don't think he minds as long as Sophie gets as many as she wants. 

He is trying to get Molly geared up.  She is not interested at all yet.  Surely, she will be in the next year or two.
