Youth hunt 2017 was a success again for Sophie.
She went out and shot her gun to make sure it was on the week before season opened.
She had high expectations after the year she had last year.

She and Larry went hunting the first morning.  They hunted hard morning and afternoon.

They came up dry for the day.  That evening she asked if she could go back the next morning.  With it being a Sunday, I told her that she didn't need to miss church to go hunting.
Sophie said, "It's better to sit in the deer stand thinking about God than to sit in church thinking about deer hunting."
Good point there Sophie!

They did get up early Sunday morning and went hunting before church.  The weather was extremely warm.  When a 3 point walked out in the food plot, it was too tempting to resist.  At least she got a deer on the first day of season AND they made it to church too.

Of course she wasn't happy about a 3 point.  She wanted a bigger buck.  So after church we all loaded up and went hunting again.

Molly isn't real excited about hunting yet.  She says that it is too hard to be quiet and still.  She loves the idea of hunting and the hunting clothes though.

Molly hunted with Larry for about 45 minutes.  Sophie and I hunted together.

Sophie was excited that she was doing it all herself.
She has really looked forward to deer season this year.

Molly and Larry sent me this picture and it really cracked me and Sophie up.

We responded back...

Then right when the sun started going down, we watched a deer coming in.  I told Sophie that it looked like a doe.  It was coming in straight to us from a wood line a long way off.  Sophie had first said that she wasn't going to shoot a doe, only a buck.  Nothing less.  But when this deer started coming in, she changed her mind.  It came right into the food plot and she pulled up the gun.  I asked her if she was sure that she wanted a doe.  She said yes.  She got ready, aimed, and shot.

She dropped it in its tracks.

Larry and Molly heard the shot and beat us to the food plot.  Larry was laughing when we walked up.  Sophie asked, "Is she not very big?"  Larry said, "It's not a she."
I didn't have my binoculars.  I don't guess she checked for horns before she shot.
She had got her another 3 point.

She was a little disappointed, but still happy she ended up with two deer in one day.
