An Interesting Outing

There are many mistakes that I made on our short trip to the store, many that I won't make again. It could have turned out worse than it did. Luckily, I can laugh about it all.

Sophie and I went to the store only two miles away. I always put Sophie in her car seat and buckle her in. Today, I did not. I put her in the front seat and put the seat belt on her to keep her put. I only needed to run in and get a pack of cigarettes because I was completely out and wasn't dressed to go to town. I had been out all day and was dying for a cigarette.

We got to the store and I jump out to run in and get a pack. I could see her from the store door, so I don't get her out of the car for it will only take a minute. I turned the ignition off so there would be no chance of an accident. I went into the store watching her and went to the register. I was in the store a total of 60 seconds. When I came out, Sophie was waving at me. I thought how sweet my baby is. I went straight to her window and waved at her through the window. She was smiling and even laughed out loud. When I went around the front of the vehicle and tried to open my door, it was locked.

First, I froze. I could see the keys laying in my purse. The windows were up. All four doors were locked. I went back around to her window and could tell that she thought the situation was more comical than I did. I pulled on her door and she jumped to the driver's side. I pecked on the window where the door lock was pushed in. Sophie pecked back at the window. I was calmly saying, "Open the door, Sophie." I didn't want to draw attention to myself just yet. Sophie would act like she was going to pull up the door lock and then laugh. This behavior was not funny to me. I looked around to make sure that no one saw the irresponsible parent that locked her two year old in a vehicle.

I tried several times to get her to pull the door lock up. She would either turn to the window buttons in the center console and push those, which didn't work because the keys weren't in it, or she would pretend that she was going to pull the lock up and didn't. She did actually hit the lock button that would click all four doors several times, only it was the wrong way.

Just as I thought that I was going to have to break a window to get in to her, she finally pulled up the door lock on her side. She smiled so big like she did something good. I jerked the door open and was in. I buckled her in her car seat and headed back home.

The whole ordeal couldn't have lasted more than a couple of minutes, but it felt like forever. I try to convince myself that she didn't know what she was doing. That may be to keep me from beating her, but surely my sweet two year old would not lock me out of the car just for fun. I do remember Sadie doing it to me at one time too, although I think she was five or six.

Just more proof that I will definately have my hands full with this one..............

O my goodness!!! I am laughing so hard! I can't help it! That is a lot funnier than the version you gave me!! That sweet little baby sure didn't mean to lock you out...I'm sure of it!

OMG! That is funny. I can just see you trying to get her to unlock and her just smiling back, thinking, Yep, I got her this time. I think she knew what she was doing. She's a smart girl! LOL See car seats can save lives (just not in the way you normally think they do), because if she had been in her carseat you would not have thought about beating her when you get home.
